Situated on the D’Aguilar Highway and the gateway to the South Burnett, Blackbutt Hardware is a family owned and operated business that has been providing quality service to Blackbutt and surrounding areas since 1989.
Geoff and his wife Di Maudsley purchased the general store in 1989 and whilst this was keeping them busy they also saw the need for a hardware store in the Blackbutt community. They came upon an opportunity to purchase premises across the road that was formerly a plumbing and giftware store. Over the years Geoff & Di expanded their business into many different areas including hardware, tools, building supplies, cement, fencing, paint, plumbing, produce, gas, gardening, DIY, giftware, pool and rural supplies. The business has moved forward thanks to Geoff & Di’s hard work and a supportive community and is still fondly referred to as Maudsley’s.
In June 2012 Geoff and Di sold the family business to their son in law and daughter David and Kate Berry. Dave and Kate’s small business aspirations are almost exactly the same as Geoff and Di’s were some 23 years ago, that Blackbutt is a great community to contribute to and the perfect town to raise a family in. Dave’s trade as a cabinet maker and Kate’s business background have seen them hit the ground running. Since then Dave and Kate have had fun moving and changing the shop layout as they introduced new product lines to meet the needs of the growing Blackbutt community.
In December 2014 the business became a member of the buying group HBT (Hardware and Building Traders). This group, set-up for independent hardware retailers continues to grow with 690+ members and 490+ Suppliers. This has helped to grow our business by giving us access to new suppliers and buying power so that we can compete with the big guys. In 2017 the opportunity to purchase the neighbouring property “the white house” became available and we saw it as the right move to invest in our future growth. Our business has grown thanks to customer demand and we value customer feedback as we consider all the exciting possibilities of what we could do next.
Blackbutt Hardware provides customers with a wide range of products with competitive pricing in the hardware sector. Our team at Blackbutt Hardware has also grown to 8 staff members and so has our family with 3 little ones who are often spotted at the store ‘helping’ their Mum and Dad.
